HurricaneRefugee.com [link] |
HurricaneRefugee.com was launched as a 100% volunteer effort to assist the displaced residents from the Gulf Coast affected
by Hurricane Katrina. It was the first contact point provided for those individuals and was presented widely in the media.
Van Dell Solutions was in touch with the Office of the Governor of Louisiana during the immediate aftermath
as well as a substantial number of other media outlets including the Houston Chronicle, East Texas, Northern Louisiana
and Northern Mississippi local television stations, the Washington Post, the New York Times and many others.
The site received 1.1 million hits during September and connected a large number of families who would have no other way communicate during that difficult period. It still receives around 30,000 hits per day.
HurricaneRefugee.com was built to have a very simplistic interface for ease of use. Although the interface is highly simplistic, the backend runs on SQL Server 2000 utilizing a variety of tables and stored procedures to provide a rapid response to each and every request.
